Iranian protesters angered by economic hardship and a sharply falling currency attempted to break into a local government building in the southern city of Fasa, as demonstrations continued for a fourth consecutive day. State media said security forces intervened to stop the group, describing them as rioters.
According to semi-official reports, at least three members of the security forces were wounded during the incident, while four protesters were arrested. Footage broadcast on state television showed demonstrators trying to force open the gates of the governorate building in Fars province.
The protests began on Sunday after the rial fell to record lows against the United States dollar, intensifying inflation and rising living costs. Initially led by shopkeepers in Tehran, the demonstrations have spread to several cities, with students joining protests in Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd and Zanjan.

Iran’s government says it is seeking dialogue with protest leaders and has pledged to listen to legitimate demands, while the prosecutor general has warned of a decisive response to any actions that threaten security. Officials insist peaceful protest is allowed, but say violence and damage to public property will not be tolerated.
