Sudan’s Army Claims Control of Presidential Palace in Khartoum

Sudan’s military says its forces have entered the presidential palace in central Khartoum, marking a significant breakthrough in its battle against the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF).  

The army has intensified its campaign in the capital in recent weeks, seeking to regain territory lost to the RSF at the start of the conflict in 2023.

Despite this advance, the RSF continues to hold large parts of the country, including much of the west.  

The civil war, now in its second year, has created what the United Nations describes as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
