Sunday Ndidi, the father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, has died following a road accident in Delta State. The footballer’s club, Besiktas, said Ndidi Snr was involved in a traffic accident on Tuesday at the Umunede area of the state and later died at a hospital in Agbor.
In a statement, Besiktas expressed sadness over the death, offering condolences to Wilfred Ndidi and his family. The club said it was deeply saddened by the loss and prayed for mercy for the deceased.

Sunday Ndidi was a retired military officer and was described by his son as a major influence on his football career. Wilfred Ndidi recently paid tribute to his father after scoring in Nigeria’s 3–2 victory over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, saying his father encouraged him into football and inspired his admiration for former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu.
