Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has turned to Nigerian football icons in a bid to revive his team’s faltering 2026 World Cup qualification hopes.
Former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu, ex-Bolton Wanderers captain Austin Okocha, Chelsea legend Mikel Obi, and veteran goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama are among the stars expected to rally behind the national squad.

Nigeria’s campaign is in disarray after a poor start, failing to secure a single win in four outings. The Super Eagles drew with Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and South Africa before a crushing defeat to Benin Republic.
With just three points from a possible 12, Nigeria languish in fifth place in Group C, trailing leaders South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin by four points. Coach Chelle hopes the presence of these legends will reignite the team’s spirit ahead of their crucial remaining fixtures.
