Super Eagles Goalkeeper Nwabali Leaves South Africa’s Chippa United

Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has left South African club Chippa United after four years, the club confirmed in a statement on Thursday. The 29-year-old Super Eagles shot stopper submitted a request to leave, which the club said it had approved.

Chippa United said Nwabali’s departure comes despite his signing a three-year contract extension in 2024, adding that the club had agreed to release him and wished him well in the next phase of his career. The club did not disclose whether he is joining another team or will become a free agent.

In its statement, Chippa United praised Nwabali’s service, commitment and professionalism, noting that his contribution to the club would be remembered. Nwabali has not commented publicly on his next move.

The goalkeeper joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2022, played more than 70 matches for the club and was appointed captain in 2024. He became the Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper following his performances at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
