Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has said Nigeria’s national team owes Nigerians an apology for failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He described the Africa Cup of Nations as an opportunity for the players to make amends and restore national pride.
Speaking in an interview on Sunday, Osimhen said the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup remains fresh within the squad, adding that the players are fully aware of the pain felt by fans at home and in the diaspora. He said the team is determined to use AFCON to show its commitment.
Nigeria’s failure to secure a World Cup ticket increased scrutiny on the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation. Osimhen said expectations remain high but insisted the players are motivated rather than burdened by pressure, drawing confidence from the quality in the squad and technical crew.
