Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has suffered another personal tragedy with the loss of his mother, just over a month after the death of his father. The Chippa United star announced the heartbreaking news on Wednesday via his X account, describing 2025 as the “worst year of my life already.”
Nwabali’s father, Chief Godspower Onyekam Abali, passed away in mid-November, just hours before Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Rwanda. The 28-year-old was excused from the match to mourn his late father, who was 67 years old.

The South Africa-based goalkeeper gained prominence last year after an impressive performance at the 2023 AFCON, where he featured in all matches as Nigeria reached the final, eventually losing to hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
