Super Eagles Threaten Boycott Over Unpaid Allowances at AFCON

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have threatened not to travel for their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match against Algeria over unpaid allowances. According to an insider close to the team, players and officials are prepared to boycott the journey from Fez to Marrakesh if their outstanding bonuses are not settled.

The Eagles are currently based in Fez, Morocco, and are scheduled to face Algeria on Saturday in Marrakesh, about five hours away. Nigeria has won all four matches at the tournament so far, topping Group C and recording a 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the second round, making them the highest scoring team with 12 goals.

The players are yet to receive bonuses for all four matches played at the competition. This is the second such protest in recent months, following a training boycott in November 2024 during the African World Cup qualifiers over unpaid allowances, a dispute that preceded Nigeria’s loss to DR Congo and failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
