The Federal Government says match bonuses owed to the Super Eagles at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have cleared all regulatory processes and will be paid within the next 48 hours. The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, said the payments would reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts starting today or tomorrow.
In a statement on Thursday, the minister explained that the delay was caused by the conversion process required to move the funds into foreign currency, which she said was the preference of the players. She added that the process had now been fast-tracked and that final transfers were already in progress, with support from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The announcement follows a threat by the Super Eagles on Wednesday to boycott their travel for the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria over unpaid allowances. Nigeria is scheduled to face Algeria on Saturday in Marrakesh, about five hours from their current base in Fez, Morocco.

The Eagles are yet to receive bonuses for all four matches played at the tournament so far. Nigeria has won all four games, topped Group C, and recorded a 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the second round, making the team the highest scoring side at the competition with 12 goals.
