Super Eagles’ World Cup Hopes Receive Unexpected Boost

Super Eagles' World Cup Hopes Receive Unexpected Boost

Nigeria’s path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains uncertain after a disappointing draw against Zimbabwe, but hopes have been revived by a potential setback for Group C leaders, South Africa.

Bafana Bafana have been accused of fielding an ineligible player in their recent match against Lesotho. Should a protest from the Lesotho FA succeed, FIFA could dock South Africa three points, cutting their lead over Nigeria to just three.

The Super Eagles, currently six points adrift with four games remaining, still face a difficult qualification campaign. However, a points deduction for South Africa could improve their chances of reaching football’s biggest stage.

Nigeria will need a strong finish in their remaining matches to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
