Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed 13 people in what appeared to be a reprisal attack on Birnin Dede village in Kebbi State.
A source said the assailants also set eight nearby villages on fire, sparing only one that was guarded by the Army. The attack followed the recent killing of the group’s leader, Maigemu, by combined security forces in the state.

Chairman of Arewa Local Government, Sani Aliyu, confirmed the attack, which occurred on Sunday. Efforts to reach the Kebbi State Police Command for further details were unsuccessful.
The security operation that resulted in Maigemu’s death was part of ongoing efforts, backed by Governor Nasir Idris, to curb criminal activities in the North-West state.
