A federal high court in Abuja has sentenced suspended University of Calabar law dean, Professor Cyril Ndifon, to five years in prison without an option of fine. Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgement on Monday after ruling that the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission proved its case of sexual harassment beyond reasonable doubt.
Professor Ndifon, removed from office in 2023 over allegations involving female students, was convicted on two counts of demanding explicit photographs and pressuring a diploma student for sexual acts in exchange for admission. The sentences will run concurrently.

His co-defendant, lawyer Sunny Anyanwu, was acquitted after the court held that the prosecution failed to link him to attempts to influence the investigation. The judge condemned Ndifon’s conduct as an abuse of office, saying the ruling should deter similar behaviour in public institutions.
