Senator Aminu Tambuwal has criticised the National Assembly’s approval of emergency rule in Rivers State, arguing that it failed to secure the constitutionally required two-thirds majority.
President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month emergency last Tuesday, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all House of Assembly members. Two days later, both chambers of the National Assembly endorsed the move in a contentious vote.

Speaking to The Sun, Tambuwal maintained that the approval process was flawed, as neither the Senate nor the House of Representatives met the legal threshold for such a decision. He also noted that the number of senators present at the time fell short of the 72 or 73 needed for a valid vote.
