The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has enhanced the power infrastructure in Lagos with the commissioning of upgraded transformers at key substations in Alausa, Ota, and Alagbon.
The initiative, which is part of a $200 million World Bank programme, aims to improve grid stability and ensure more reliable electricity distribution across the nation.
During a tour of the Lagos Region on Wednesday, TCN’s Managing Director, Sule Abdulaziz, announced the installation of a 125 megavolt-amperes transformer at the Alausa 132/33KV substation. This upgrade boosts the substation’s capacity from 105 megavolt-amperes to 230 megavolt-amperes, enabling Ikeja Electric to deliver more bulk power to areas including Ikeja, Oregun, Alausa, Ojodu, and nearby communities.
Mr Abdulaziz also revealed that similar enhancements are underway in other parts of the country, including Kano, Maiduguri, and Yola, as part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity grid.
