Four FIRS Staff Killed in Lagos Office Fire

Ten staff members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and United Capital Plc have died in a fire at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos. The incident occurred on Tuesday and has been confirmed in separate statements by both organisations.

The fire, which started in an inverter room in the building’s basement, spread quickly, trapping workers on the upper floors. Witnesses described scenes of panic as occupants smashed windows to escape thick smoke, with some jumping while bystanders rushed with ladders and materials to cushion falls.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed the blaze had engulfed multiple floors. FIRS said investigations into the cause are underway, adding that safety measures will be reviewed across its offices nationwide.
