At least 10 people have been killed and 33 others are missing after flash floods swept through Gansu province in northwestern China, state media has reported. Continuous heavy rain since Wednesday triggered the flooding, which struck on Thursday afternoon.
President Xi Jinping has ordered “all-out” rescue efforts, urging authorities to spare no effort in finding the missing. He warned against complacency amid the frequent occurrence of extreme weather and called for stronger risk prevention measures.

Footage released by fire authorities showed rescuers guiding residents through fast-flowing grey water in a village, while government photos from Gansu revealed roads blanketed in silt and scattered with large stones.
China has seen record rainfall in recent weeks, with meteorologists linking the extreme weather to climate change. Since late July, heavy rains and flooding have killed at least 60 people across northern China, including in Beijing.
