FG Says 5.5 Million Nigerian Households Now Receive Cash Transfers

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Mr Bernard Doro

The Federal Government says at least 5.5 million Nigerian households are now benefitting from its cash transfer programmes. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Mr Bernard Doro, disclosed this at the inaugural meeting of the Act Naija National Steering Committee in Abuja. He said the ministry continues to strengthen social protection systems aimed at addressing poverty, vulnerability and humanitarian pressures nationwide.

According to the ministry, more than 19.7 million households have been verified in the National Social Register. Key schemes include conditional cash transfers, N-Power, the GEEP initiative and the homegrown school feeding programme. Micro-credit support is also assisting over five million Nigerians, particularly women and young people.

The minister said the Act Naija project aligns with government priorities and will help deliver more transparent and effective social protection.
