Three killed and 64 abducted in Zamfara village attack

Bandits have killed three people and abducted at least 64 others during an attack on Fegin Baza village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Women and children were among those taken, and four people were taken to Tsafe General Hospital with gunshot wounds. Among the dead was an All Progressives Congress chieftain, Umaru Moriki, who was shot while travelling near the village.

Residents said the attackers, numbering more than 30 and riding on motorbikes, later blocked the Gusau–Funtua Road, opening fire on vehicles and kidnapping passengers. According to a survivor the gunmen struck shortly after overtaking the convoy of the state Commissioner of Police, leading motorists to flee into nearby bushes before security reinforcements arrived.

Local vigilantes said they had received intelligence of a planned raid and kept watch overnight, but the attackers eventually shifted to the highway after failing to enter the village. In a separate late-night incident on the outskirts of Gusau, another group of bandits abducted residents near the Nigerian Television Authority station and the Bulunku area.

The incident came a day after the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, visited the state and announced fresh troop deployments, vowing that security forces would deal decisively with criminal groups.
