Three killed in clash between youths, security operatives in Katsina

At least three people have been killed and several others injured following a clash between security operatives and suspected drug dealers in the Sabuwar Unguwa area of Katsina metropolis. The incident occurred at Kwabron Dorawa Unguwar Nayalle when security personnel attempted to arrest a suspected drug dealer identified as Uzairu, also known as Kuda.

Eyewitnesses said the situation escalated after the suspect resisted arrest and mobilised others in an attempt to retrieve a seized mobile phone. During the confrontation, a shot was fired by a security operative, and Uzairu was later confirmed dead at a hospital, according to police.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said violence resumed during the funeral procession on Sunday, when some youths set fire to an outpost of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and damaged motorcycles and a police patrol vehicle. He added that a policeman sustained a machete injury during the unrest.

DSP Sadiq said stray bullets fired during efforts to restore order hit two people, one of whom later died, bringing the death toll to three, while the other is receiving treatment. He urged residents to remain calm and warned against taking the law into their own hands, as security agencies continue to monitor the situation.
