Three killed, several abducted in attack on Kwara church

Bandits attacked a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church at Oke Isegun in the Eruku community of Kwara State on Tuesday evening, killing at least three worshippers and abducting an unconfirmed number of people. A video seen during a live stream showed the congregation fleeing as gunshots rang out around the building at about 6pm before armed men entered the church.

According to eyewitnesses quoted in media reports, more than five gunmen stormed the church, shooting at worshippers and later taking the pastor and several members into the bush. A community leader, Benjamin Ayeoribe, said Eruku has faced repeated bandit attacks in recent weeks and that appeals for help have not yielded results.

The Kwara State Police Command said in a statement that three people, including a vigilante, were injured during what it described as an attempted bandit attack. Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that two male victims were found fatally shot, while a vigilante with gunshot wounds was taken to ECWA Hospital in Eruku for treatment.
