At least three people have been killed following a clash between rival cult groups in Jato-Aka town, in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. The incident occurred on Wednesday, prompting a police operation in the area.
The Benue State Police Command said officers from the Jato-Aka division responded to the violence and found two male victims already dead, while others sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. Police said the clash, which broke out at about 10 am, involved rival cult groups known as Red and Black.
Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. She said items recovered include a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, two axes and two machetes, while efforts continue to arrest other suspects who escaped.

In a related development, police say a young man identified as Abu was shot dead during a separate cult-related incident in Otukpo town, in Otukpo Local Government Area. Authorities say investigations are ongoing into both incidents.
