President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 774 National Health Fellows, one from each local council, in a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
The initiative, recommended by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, follows a rigorous selection process that shortlisted the best candidates from over 360,000 applicants.

Speaking at the programme’s launch at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu described the scheme as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, acknowledging the country’s vast youth potential. With over 60% of Nigerians under 30, he noted, the nation possesses an energetic and resourceful workforce.
The President urged the new fellows to seize the opportunity and see themselves as key players in shaping Nigeria’s healthcare sector. The initiative, he said, marks a step towards long-term improvements in medical services nationwide.
