Tinubu Commends Super Eagles Despite Loss to DRC

President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles for what he described as their best efforts in the World Cup qualifying campaign, despite their defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo on penalties in Sunday’s playoff match in Morocco. Nigeria missed out on a World Cup spot for the second consecutive time after losing 4–3 in the shootout.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the team to put the disappointment behind them and immediately focus on preparations for the African Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco from December 2025 to January 2026.

Tinubu acknowledged the pain felt by Nigerians following the defeat but said the players deserved commendation for their determination, especially after winning the first leg of the playoffs. He encouraged the team to remain united and committed as they prepare for the continental tournament.
