President Bola Tinubu has announced the creation of a special welfare fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including those injured in service and families of fallen personnel. The announcement was made on Sunday to mark his 74th birthday and to recognise the sacrifice and dedication of military officers.
The President has directed the Accountant General of the Federation to open a dedicated account for the fund. It is expected to provide targeted assistance to wounded service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who died in active service.
As part of his personal commitment, President Tinubu has pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative. He also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund.
