President Bola Tinubu has extended the ban on the export of raw shea nuts in Nigeria for an additional year, the presidency announced on Wednesday. A statehouse press release confirmed that the measure will run from February 26, 2026, until February 25, 2027.
According to the presidential statement, the policy aims to accelerate local processing of shea nuts and to promote value-added products rather than exporting the raw material. The presidency said the move supports domestic industrial capacity and seeks to improve economic returns within the shea nut value chain.
Under the new directive, raw shea nuts can only be exported through a framework established by the Nigerian Commodity Exchange, and all waivers that previously allowed direct exports have been withdrawn.
