Tinubu Flags Off Construction Of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the 700 kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway at a ceremony that took place in Victoria Island in Lagos, on Sunday.

Attendant at the ceremony were the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Hope Uzodinma and Dapo Abiodun, the Imo and Ogun state governors; and Dave Umahi, minister of work.

The construction of the highway began in March. The first phase of the project, made up of 47 kilometres of dual carriageway, was awarded to Hitech Construction Company Ltd.

The project has generated some controversy, from the demolition of structures on the beach, and allegations of lack of transparency in the award and project cost.

Speaking on Thursday during the 3rd stakeholders’ meeting, Works minister Umahi said the Federal Government will revert to the gazetted route within some kilometres of the coastal highway project in order to save submarine cables.
