President Bola Tinubu has posthumously conferred the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON, on four late Ogoni leaders – Albert Badey, Edward Kobani, Theophilus Orage, and Samuel Orage, often referred to as the “Ogoni Four.” The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving the report of the Ogoni Consultation Committee.

The President appealed to the Ogoni people to set aside decades of division and embrace reconciliation, stressing the need for unity across communities and generations.
He pledged his administration’s support for peace-building, environmental clean-up, and economic renewal in Ogoniland, adding that the government is prepared to back the return of oil exploration to the area as part of a wider drive for shared prosperity.
