President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, to coordinate with the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure protection for VIPs now exposed following nationwide withdrawal of police escorts.
The directive came at Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja, days after the police withdrawal order took effect on November 23.
Tinubu told ministers and public officeholders that if their work demands security, they must inform the IGP and obtain presidential clearance. He emphasised that civil-defence officers are suitably armed and capable of assuming VIP security duties.

The President further directed the National Security Adviser and the Department of State Services (DSS) to review the security structure and consider arming forest guards where necessary. The aim is to redirect police manpower to frontline duties in volatile regions and under-secured communities.
