Tinubu Reappoints Marwa as NDLEA Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retired) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for another five year term. His renewed mandate, which runs until 2031, was announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Marwa was first appointed to lead the NDLEA in January 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. Before that, he chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse between 2018 and 2020. The President described his reappointment as a vote of confidence in the agency’s work against drug trafficking and abuse.

A former military governor of Lagos and Borno states, Marwa has held a range of military and diplomatic roles, including Deputy Defence Adviser at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC and Defence Adviser to Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
