President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the refurbished Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos, marking the official reopening of Nigeria’s foremost cultural landmark. The centre, formerly known as the National Arts Theatre, was renamed last year in honour of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka.
The renovation was funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria in partnership with the Bankers’ Committee, with policy oversight from the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy. Officials described the project as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s creative industries and cultural heritage.

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the facility would not only promote arts and tourism but also serve as a hub for international conferences and world-class performances. He noted that the centre’s reopening underscored Lagos’s ambition to become a leading destination for culture, commerce, and global engagement.
