The United Kingdom has released the programme for President Bola Tinubu’s state visit from March 17 to 19. The visit will include ceremonial events at Windsor Castle, bilateral meetings, and engagements with the Nigerian diaspora. Security preparations, road closures, and procession rehearsals are scheduled ahead of the president’s arrival.
Tinubu will arrive on March 18 and be received by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. A ceremonial welcome on Datchet Road will include national anthems and a guard inspection, followed by a carriage procession to Windsor Castle, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla will receive him. The day will feature a 21-gun salute, a state luncheon, and a formal reception.
Later, the president will hold bilateral meetings with UK officials to discuss trade, security, migration, and port development. The schedule also includes a cultural exchange showcasing Nigerian artefacts and a state banquet at Windsor Castle. On March 19, Tinubu will have a private breakfast with the king and queen before departing for London.
In London, Tinubu will meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street for discussions and a working lunch. He will also lay a wreath at the Cenotaph, meet the Nigerian diaspora, and sign bilateral agreements at Buckingham Palace. The visit marks Nigeria’s first full state visit to the UK in 57 years.
