Media personality Toke Makinwa has spoken about the struggles she faced during her former marriage, saying she chose to leave to protect her health and future. She described the experience as a test of resilience under intense public scrutiny.
In an interview with broadcaster Chude Jideonwo, Makinwa said many people misunderstood her decision to walk away, often downplaying the severity of her challenges because she survived and rebuilt her life.

She explained that the emotional intensity of being in a public relationship made the situation dangerous for her wellbeing, adding that she might have stayed longer if her marriage had been private.
Makinwa said leaving was difficult but necessary, stressing that choosing to prioritise herself over remaining in what she called a toxic environment was the only way to safeguard her life and future.
