Actor and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has addressed comments made by her colleague Kunle Afolayan on filmmakers’ profits after their projects cross N1 billion at the box office. Afolayan had suggested that some filmmakers earn less than N10 million in profit even when their films achieve over a billion naira in cinemas.
Abraham’s manager, Samuel Olatunji, said Afolayan called to clarify his remarks, and Abraham shared her concerns about how the comments could be interpreted. He added that the matter was resolved amicably, and both parties have since moved on.
Olatunji emphasised that Afolayan’s N10 million reference was sarcastic, and that no filmmaker earns so little from a billion-naira gross. He urged the industry to address systemic issues affecting profitability rather than public disagreements.

Abraham, along with Funke Akindele, remains one of the only Nollywood filmmakers to have achieved a N1 billion box office gross. The clarification comes amid ongoing debates in the industry about film marketing strategies and the sustainability of current promotional practices.
