Nigerian filmmaker, Toyin Abraham has set a new record, as her latest release Malaika, has topped the gross earnings of her previous production, Ijakumo.
According to a report released yesterday by the Cinemas Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), Malaika cashed in ₦10.9 million over the weekend, bringing its gross total to ₦283m

Malaika, which is still showing across cinemas nationwide, and Ijakunmo, still streaming on Netflix, currently place 10th and 11th respectively, on the table for the highest-grossing Nigerian movies ever.
At the top of the list sits A Tribe Called Judah, which is inching closer to the ₦1.5 billion mark, despite a continuous fall in earnings since the year began. Still maintaining its record as the highest-grossing Nigerian movie ever, its current local gross is set at ₦1.35bn.
