Tribunal to Deliver Judgment on Edo Governorship Election Wednesday

The Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will deliver its judgment on Wednesday in the case filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP and Ighodalo claim the September 21, 2024 election was marred by irregularities and want the tribunal to nullify Okpebholo’s victory. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Okpebholo winner with 291,667 votes, ahead of Ighodalo’s 247,655 votes.

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, had earlier admitted 148 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines as evidence in the case. While the PDP insists the election was flawed, the APC argues the petition lacks merit.
