Troops of Forward Operating Base Wukari, under the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a suspected bandit leader accused of involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery along the Benue–Taraba axis. The arrest took place on December 21 at Vaase Community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a statement on Monday, the spokesperson of the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Muhammad Umar, identified the suspect as Fidelis Gayama, describing him as a high-value individual long wanted by security agencies. He said the operation was intelligence-led and executed with precision.

According to the army, preliminary investigations show that the suspect is closely linked to Dogo, a wanted armed group leader, and is believed to be the ringleader of a criminal network operating along the Kente–Wukari Road and surrounding border communities between Benue and Taraba states. Police personnel at the Vaase Outpost also confirmed that the suspect had been declared wanted by the Beji Police Division in Ukum.
