Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai say they have neutralised two senior Boko Haram commanders and eight other fighters during operations in the Sambisa Forest and Mandara Mountains in north east Nigeria.
The commanders, identified as Basulhu and Ubaida, were killed during what the military described as renewed offensive action under Operation Desert Sanity V, following an attempt by insurgents to plant improvised explosive devices in the area.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said the operation took place in the early hours of Thursday, with troops repelling an ambush involving roadside explosives and heavy gunfire. He said several weapons, motorcycles, communication devices and bomb making materials were recovered.

The statement added that troops also engaged insurgents near Malkube and along the Galakura axis close to the Cameroon border, forcing them to withdraw, while additional arms and equipment were seized without casualties to military personnel.
