Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised more than 70 terrorist fighters, including three commanders, during a clearance operation in the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious enclave in the North-East.
The operation, carried out on Friday, targeted a stronghold of Islamic State-affiliated militants in a wasteland spanning Borno and Yobe states. Supported by airstrikes, ground forces successfully dislodged the terrorists, inflicting heavy casualties.

The outgoing Director of Defence Media Operations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Buba, confirmed on Sunday that 22 troops were lost in the operation, clarifying earlier reports suggesting 27 casualties.
Among the neutralised insurgents was a key commander known as Talha, identified as the terrorists’ Special Forces leader. The military described the operation as a major success in its ongoing efforts to restore stability in the region.
