Troops under Operation MESA have rescued three of the five residents abducted from Lakwaya village in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State. The operation involved personnel of the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, working with the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Police.
The abductions followed an attack by gunmen suspected to be bandits, who stormed the area under the cover of darkness on Sunday night. Local sources said the incident occurred around Zurin Mahauta village, causing fear among residents.
Confirming the rescue, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the 3 Brigade, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, added that security forces were continuing efforts to track the abductors and secure the release of the remaining victims.
