US President Donald Trump says American military operations against Iran are ahead of schedule. He also confirmed that three US service members were killed in action, with several others wounded, describing the casualties as expected in a conflict of this scale.

Fighting has spread across the region. In Israel, nine people were reported killed after a missile strike in Beit Shemesh, while the Israel Defence Forces says it has launched a new wave of attacks on Tehran. Iranian officials report more than one hundred and fifty deaths following a strike that hit a school.

In Tehran, mourners gathered at Vali Asr Square after the reported killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran’s foreign minister says a new leader could be chosen within days. Smoke was seen rising over parts of the capital as fresh strikes continued.
