United States President Donald Trump has urged Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to provide greater support in the ongoing war with Iran. The call was made during a meeting at the White House in Washington, where both leaders discussed security and energy concerns linked to the conflict.
Trump said allies, including Japan, should play a stronger role in securing key global energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, which has been affected by the crisis. He stressed that the conflict has contributed to rising global oil prices and requires coordinated international action.
Prime Minister Takaichi said Japan opposes Iran’s actions and supports efforts to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons. However, she noted that Japan’s response is constrained by its pacifist constitution and domestic opposition to direct military involvement.

Both leaders agreed to continue cooperation on energy security, defence, and economic issues. The meeting comes amid growing pressure on US allies to contribute more actively to efforts aimed at stabilising the Middle East.
