The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, has condemned what it describes as anti-labour practices at the Dangote refinery, including the alleged dismissal of 800 workers for supposedly exercising their right to join a union. In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mr. Nuhu Toro, the TUC demanded the immediate reinstatement of the affected workers alongside a public apology from the company.

The union stressed that victimisation of staff for union membership violates Nigeria’s constitution and international labour obligations. It called for an independent investigation into the refinery’s labour practices involving the Ministry of Labour and other stakeholders.
The TUC further warned that it had placed its affiliates on standby for nationwide industrial action should the company fail to meet its demands. It insisted that no corporation, regardless of its size, would be allowed to undermine the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers.
