Tuggar Advocates Strategic Autonomy In Nigeria’s Foreign Policy

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has warned that over-alignment with global powers could expose Nigeria to unwanted conflicts and weaken its sovereignty.

He made the remarks on Monday while delivering a lecture at the Institute of Diplomatic Practice, Culture and Language Development at Achievers University in Owo, Ondo State.

Tuggar said Nigeria should pursue strategic autonomy, describing it as a continuation of its long-standing foreign policy approach, while maintaining active engagement in global affairs.

He added that Nigeria must balance relationships with traditional allies and emerging blocs, ensuring its foreign policy decisions align with national interests and priorities.
