Turaki-led PDP Faction Rejects INEC Recognition of Wike-Aligned Committee

The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission for recognising a caretaker committee aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The faction described INEC’s decision as unconstitutional, following the commission’s presentation of the Wike-backed Acting Chairman, Acting Secretary and National Organising Secretary at its quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja on Thursday.

In a statement, the PDP National Publicity Secretary of the Turaki faction, Ini Ememobong, said the group would pursue all legal options to challenge INEC’s action. He urged party members to remain calm, noting that appeals are pending before the Court of Appeal. Ememobong said the party’s constitution makes no provision for a national caretaker committee and accused the commission of acting despite ongoing court cases on the leadership dispute.

The crisis follows a Federal High Court ruling last Friday which nullified the PDP National Convention held on November 15, 2025, and barred Kabiru Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and others from parading themselves as national officers. The Wike-aligned faction insists its caretaker committee, set up on December 8 for a 60-day mandate, is valid and has welcomed INEC’s recognition, pledging to organise a fresh national convention.
