Turaki Takes Control of PDP Secretariat After Chaotic Abuja Standoff

Mr. Kabiru Turaki on Tuesday formally assumed office as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party after a tense standoff at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja. His entry followed hours of confrontation with a faction he described as renegade members expelled at the party’s Ibadan convention.

Rival groups clashed earlier in the day as supporters of Samuel Anyanwu, backed by allies of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, refused to vacate the premises. Police fired multiple rounds of teargas as the newly elected executives, including Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, attempted to access the building.

Mr. Turaki said only restraint prevented bloodshed, insisting he had now taken full charge. He pledged that the party would continue to defend democratic values, declaring that the PDP is back on course.

Speaking to the press, he also called on the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump,  and the international community to, in his own words, ‘save Nigeria’s democracy.’
