Twelve People Burnt Beyond Recognition in Yobe Road Crash

Twelve people, including ten male adults, one female adult, and one female child, died in a tragic road crash on Tuesday night along the Bayamari-Geidam road in Yobe State. The accident occurred around 10:00 pm at Chelluri village, 20 kilometres from Geidam, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

In a statement issued in Damaturu, the FRSC Sector Commander for Yobe State, Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the incident. He revealed that the crash involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG 831 ZR, owned by Dan Nene Construction Company, and a Sharon mini bus with registration number BAU 124 YF. The bus, which was overloaded and speeding, ran into the stationary truck and burst into flames, burning all 12 occupants beyond recognition.

Preliminary investigations identified road obstruction caused by the stationary truck as the immediate cause of the accident, while excessive speed and overloading by the bus driver were cited as contributing factors. Mr. Yilzoom warned motorists against night travel, citing poor visibility exacerbated by the current harmattan haze as a significant risk.
