Two people have died, while 13 others remain missing after a head-on collision between a speedboat and a fishing boat at the Akede community waterfront in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The accident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, involved a speedboat named Meeting Marine, powered by a 115HP engine and operated by a man identified as Saturday. The vessel was traveling from Anyama Ijaw towards Lubia and Foropa communities when it collided with a fishing boat. Local divers have since launched rescue efforts to locate the missing passengers.

Confirming the incident, Comrade Ogoniba Ipigansi, Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in Bayelsa State, stated that communication challenges in the area had hampered rescue operations. He added that 13 people were yet to be accounted for.
Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Muhammad, said the incident had not yet been officially reported but assured that the authorities would investigate the matter.
