Two Palestinians Killed In Gaza As Rafah Medical Exits Remain Restricted

At least two Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in separate incidents in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, 18 February 2026. Local sources say one child died after a drone strike in the north, while 20-year-old Muhand Jamal al Najjar was shot near Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis.

Hospital officials in Gaza say three other people were wounded in incidents in al Mughraqa in central Gaza and al Mawasi in Rafah. The Palestinian Ministry of Health says more than 600 people have been killed and over 1,600 injured since a ceasefire took effect in mid-October, which it says has been repeatedly violated.

The deaths come as Israel continues to restrict medical evacuations through the Rafah crossing into Egypt. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says only 260 patients have been allowed to leave Gaza since the crossing partially reopened two and a half weeks ago.

The UN estimates that around 18,500 people require urgent medical evacuation. Humanitarian agencies, including the World Health Organisation, have called for expanded access to treatment outside Gaza and increased medical supplies within the territory.
