Two People Killed in Gunmen Attack on Ebonyi Community

Gunmen Abduct 15 Travellers in Benue Highway Attack

Two persons have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected gunmen at Oriuzor community in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The state police spokesman, Superintendent Joshua Ukandu, said the incident occurred on Saturday night, November 1, 2025. He identified the victims as a barber, Ifeanyi Ogele, who was shot dead in his shop, and a commercial tricycle rider, Obumneme Nweke, killed nearby.

Ukandu told journalists that investigations are ongoing to uncover those behind the killings, adding that police operatives are on the trail of the suspects. He assured residents that efforts are being made to prevent further attacks in the area.

Meanwhile, a commercial bus driver was attacked by suspected hoodlums in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, on Monday. Eyewitnesses said the assailants descended on the driver after he allegedly beat a traffic light, chasing and assaulting him until he lost consciousness.

The police confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the assault, and the victim has been taken to hospital for treatment. Ukandu said investigations are underway, and the suspects remain in custody as the Command works to ensure justice is served.
