Two major aspirants to the office of Speaker of the House in the coming 10th National Assembly, Honourables Aliyu Betara and Yusuf Gagdi, have both stepped down for the preferred House Speaker candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas.
In a statement on Sunday, the Honourables Tajudeen Abbas/Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu Joint Task Campaign Office said the aspirants have formally stepped down for Honourable Abbas, thereby bringing to an end the G7, a Group 7 aspirants initially opposed to his candidacy. The other only other main opposition to the candidacy of Abass is the immediate past Deputy Speaker, Hon. Idris Wase, who has repeatedly said in many fora that he will contest against the rule of play.

The campaign office also dismissed the speculations that the Abbas candidacy was not known to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It added in a statement, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (PhD) has secured the endorsement of the overwhelming majority of members-elect across the eight political parties in the six geopolitical zones, and he is ready to compete on the floor of the House and take the mantle of leadership of the 10th House come Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
The inauguration of the 10th National Assembly is been scheduled to take place at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja on Tuesday, 13 June, 2023.
